Stick Em Up!

I'm a collector.....no wait, rather a connoisseur.....of materials related to the area of video games. Have a rare promo copy of the Japanese version of Final Fantasy 7 where Aeris doesn't die? I'm on it. The tissue that one of the developers of Einhander blew his nose in? Sell it to me. Just like most other collecters, I prefer the items to be in good shape. Even the easy to find stuff, like: I don't know - run of the mill games. That's why I can't stand going into a game store and finding a box tied up, beaten and blindfolded with stickers like it's been kidnapped by terrorists or something.

Really, do I need to know this game has been pre-owned via that large glowing green sticker slapped on the box? I think the scratched up disc and creases in the instruction book will relay that information just the same. Should I ask about the 10% extra trade value I get by paying to join some stupid club as the next eyesore suggests? No, becuase the clerk is going to give me that rant as I purchase the game anyway. Be sure to slap on some kind of sticker telling me what system said game is for - I can't just look at the top of the box to glean that information.

Is it too much to ask for used game stores to stop molesting my game? I've got a bit of a neat freak streak in me, and would like my collection to have just a bit of showmanship to it for the future. That way, when I'm 80 years old and giving a presentation on classic gaming in the Wii era (yes, they are going to name an entire era after the Wii if you like the console or not), I can hold up my copy of Gradius V and refer to it as the most underrated game ever without being ashamed of all the sticker residue on the outside of the box.

Metroid Prime 3

Metroid Prime 3 rocks HARD!!! It is a really good game. I don't think I will be able to control dual stick games like Lost Planet, Halo, etc anymore. The old dual stick is so bad in comparison, this is the closest to mouse and keyboard you will get on a console. Once you play a FPS/FPA like this, going back to dual stick will HURT. It makes me wonder how long till Sony (or Microsoft) copies Nintendo's controller (I heard Sony already is doing something).

I remember not being able to play Lost Planet very well (I remember it was on the night before my wedding) because I couldn't get the controls the way I wanted, if it had the new MP3 controls it would have been amazing to play. I think people will love the new style of play.

There are 3 settings, Beginner, Normal and Advanced. I didn't try beginner, Normal is more like Redsteel (but better) and Advanced is where its at. There is no bounding box, so its like having an air mouse! It takes a little while to get used to it because its sensitive and its always moving a bit, but once you get it down its great. Getting it down didn't take me long, smaller enimes are harder to hit at first, and you can still lock on (but you never have to, unless you need to use the grapple) and move around an enemy, but you can STILL aim while doing this. Its feels really great!

I played past the first section, you get a lot of story and told where to go. Don't worry though after that its just like the old games. I got to the planet so far and it looks so cool. Wow it is just a great game. I am over 1+ hours in game time (3 hours realtime) and loving every minute of it.

Bottom line...

If you have a Wii and love Metroid...Get it!
Want a great game on Wii...Get it!
Just get it! You will not regret it!

Nintendo is now number 1 in sales!

Wow that was fast, here's the info at IGN Wii. After only 9 months the Wii is the number 1 selling videogame console even outselling the DS.

I myself am a big Nintendo fan, I love their games. Makes me feel like I will get more out of my system then previous systems after the SNES. More games will be made for it and thats great, If Metroid Prime 3 does well next week (it will) and shows that the FPS control scheme can be best on Wii (supposodly its almost as good as PC's), we will get a more wide range of titles. We already are getting more, since it is selling so well the companies are realizing they need to make games for it and in a year or so it will be great.

I don't as of yet have a PS3 or 360, the PS3 is too much and the 360 is getting better but there are not enough games I want to play for the price, besides if I want to play something I go to my brothers (Hunter) to play! I don't want to have them breakdown either, Me and Hunter must have had 4-6 PS2's :( (at least that's a way to sell systems)

Im sure eventually I will get one if not both of them, in the past I would have had them all, but with getting married last year, life changes and time is shorter. So I play my Nintendo favs and the others (MGS4 and FFXIII) will have to wait.

Super Metroid

I just downloaded it on the Wii's VC. This game is so great, I bought it when it originally came out in 1994, on the first day! It's like playing it again for the first time, it holds up so well, it looks, sounds and plays great.....still

This is one of the best games ever and easily top 5 SNES. For anyone that hasn't played it or just love great sidescrollers, its a must play.

For all you Castlevaina SOTN and after fans, this is the game they all copied from, so download it and enjoy this classic SNES game!

Its a great way to kill time untill Metroid Prime 3 comes out next week!

I Never Heard That One Before!

Signs can be completely pointless. If we put a sign in the window "Just ask and we'll give you a FREE game", only 5 out of every 10 people would take advantage of it, because most people don't bother to read signs. Imagine if the same were true of traffic symbols? Oh, I didn't want to take the time to read the four letters on the stop sign, so I didn't bother to stop........

With that said, there are two types of people who will ask to use the bathroom at the store. The first type I can deal with, it's the people who just didn't see the sign. Usually it's the parent dragging the 8 year old with them that just bought a happy meal and visited 3 other stores before us, and the child's bladder is screaming bloody murder. I have a game for you, kid, it's called see if you can make it home without staining the back seat of mommy's new SUV.

The second person is the wise guy - they read the sign and think it will be the funniest schtick since Robin Williams if they knowingly ask to use the restroom. Woah, don't ask that in public, Dave Chapelle might overhear and incorporate it into his next HBO special. Maybe it was slightly funny the first time someone asked, but after 50 times it gets old, people. Then you have the repeat offenders, who after you tell them no, they ask again, this time with a "really?", or some other inflection to make sure they can't use the restroom. And trust me, our bathroom is so dirty, you would actually clean it up a bit by pissing all over the toilet.

Location Test

I hate calls that are a waste of time. Having a long, intelligent conversation about video games is a favorite pasttime of mine, however the exact opposite happens when dealing with the phone. Currently most of the tele-annoyances inquire if we have any Wii in stock (Nintendo owes me personally for drumming up such a fervor about their stupid console). Second to that is "what time do you close." These calls scare me, because if I tell them we close at 9pm, chances are they are going to show up at 8:56, becuase clerks want nothing more than to extend their shift when it's time to go home.

The third most common call is "where are you located?", i.e. people wanting direcctions to the store. Being a bit of a wise-ass myself, I always wanted to answer "standing behind the counter!" (see comic), but dealing with the public requires a polite front, so I hold off and just give them directions. Don't most people just use Mapquest by now anyway? Seriously, when you call a place that has a busy employee trying to handle 5 things at once, they aren't going to give you the best directions on how to get there.

My other favorite call is the Dreamcast kid (who will show up in the comic shortly.) He's a young guy who probably sits at home unsupervised, and calls us up for the craziest stuff. Once he called asking how to get past a certain part in Zelda Ocarina of Time (which I forgot since it has been so long since I've played it). Recently he called and spouted off in a rapid fire voice: "My controllers don't work and I tried to push left and it won't go left but the Super NES isn't working either the trigger buttons won't play and I can't play my game and the controllers still don't work and.....and......and......" He's always a good time.......
