NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

I got NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams yesterday, its good. The movies and flight levels are GREAT, the kid levels are blah, and the in-game cimemas look bad.

You can tell they rushed the game, they should not worry so much about x-mas. I like the game, but it could have been a lot better. You can't skip the cinemas, the story is ok, but the cinemas look Dreamcast quality, not Wii. The rest of the game is not like that, the rest of the game rocks.

The 1st boss NiGHTS. Its like the old game too where if you die past the 1st loop of a level or a boss, you start from the beginning. Thats waht can make it hard, but once you know what to do it gets easy.

There are a few control setups. It plays interesting with the Wiimote where you just point at the screen, it’s a tad harder to do the loops though. Then I tried the classic controller, works great, like classic NiGHTS. I think the Wiimote + Nunchuck works the best, the analog is a tad smoother overall.

Overall the game is good, would have been great if it was all flight levels and the in-game cinemas didn’t look so bad (ie. DC quality). Ya, these may seem like more than minor gripes, but the main levels are so much fun (like the original), most people won't care.

Thats my intial impressions, lets take it to the boards for more discussion.

Beggers can be losers........

Here's an incident that almost ended my retail gaming career before it even got started. This took place shortly after I was hired for the store, I think about my third shift in. I had several things going on at once, which is the usual when you're the only person working the store. I'm waiting on a guy in line buying a lot of new release movies, so spending that much money will get you most of my attention. Behind him is a store regular wanting to sell a PS2 set.

As I'm ringing up the movie guy, a colorful character walks in and starts talking to the ps2 lady. They talked like they knew each other and I didn't think much of it. Until I started to actually look at the guy - he's dressed in street gear, which isn't too unusual, but he's got his jaw wired shut or something, and he's holding some kind of drink in his hand. He starts talking, and I see a Flavor Flav style metal grill in his teeth, and after a few words I figure out what kind of drink he's carrying - beer. I don't catch the whole converstation, but the ps2 lady points next door, and he leaves.

She walks up and I start to hook up her set to verify it works. She explains that he was soliciting her for some bus money, and she told him to try next door. She was creeped out by him, and said he's drunk and I should lock the front door. Not a bad idea, so I start to do that, when the store owner comes in - which takes some pressure off of me. We mention the colorful character, and speak of the devil, he strolls back in and starts yelling at everyone - "why'd you shend me necht door - they didn't give me no dolla either! Ya coulda just said no....." I thought he was going to punch the woman, the way he was looking at her. He then curses off everyone in the store, and the owner gets into it with him. It took a fake phone call to the cops to finally get him to leave.

I ask the owner if this is what I have to expect all the time. He said no, and thankfully Flavor hasn't returned to the store, probably nursing that jaw back to health, which I can pretty much guess someone caused with a large fist to his face. Makes me appreciate the geeks who come in and talk you to death that much more: at least they are non-threatening.

Puzzle Quest

I got Puzzle quest on Wii, the basic game rocks. I missed the DS version and I tried the PC Demo and loved it. But there is an issue, the Wii conversion wasn’t near the quality of the awesome like PC Demo or XBLA versions (same as PC).

It’s the same as the PS2 one with tiny text and much smaller board. Its has cool pointing controls, but the small size, makes pointing harder. It’s a great game...sadly the Wii version isn't as good as the other versions. I am very disapointed in the very lazy port of this great game. All the content is there, but these issues do take away from the game. Sadly, this made me get another version.

So I want out and got the DS version, wow the game rocks. It is so hard to put down. The graphics are better in the PC and XBLA versions, but this version has a nice size board, good music and stylus controls, which rock. Great game!

It is going to get harder to find though for DS (It's been out since March.) I found it at a Gamestop (the 3rd one I tried) for $20 and that was the last copy. Target now has it for $15 while supplies last.

Its a very addictive game with cool RPG elements that had a very D&D feel mixed with great strategy. So I recommend you get a copy soon! You won't want to stop playing!

Sony Sponsored Mario Galaxy Review: “The Worst Two-Player Experience”

I was reading Gamefaq and I came across a thread about this SONY Sponsored Super Mario Galaxy review. This is so funny, you won't believe this, read the comments too. Click on the review too and read it, he too a screen shot just incase they took it down. Just when you think companies go too far...

He says how the new Ratchet game looks better, ya, but fails to tell you about the slower framerate and massive screen tearing, and overall way lower scores. That is just one of his comments.

If you played Mario you can see the game is leaps and 360 degree plannet jumps over most games today. Go to look at the rest of his comments, its really funny.

I'm in no way a 360 or PS3 hater, but this such BS on the reviewer and SONY's part.

WOW, just, WOW!

Lots of new games

I got Super Mario Galaxy and it is great. It is one of the most fun games I have played in years. It looks, plays, sounds great.

There are so many game coming out this and next week, and thats just the Wii.

I got Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. I am really liking the game, the game looks way better than the review made me think, there is normal mapping (shininess, on some enemies and bosses, looks nice). Its 30 frames not 60, so it feels a tad slow. But the game is really fun, and the Wesker missions are cool, a lot of new background info. It is a very enjoyable game, I want to play it with the zapper, that’s next week.

I got CONTRA 4 and it is F-ing awesome. Really hard though. I beat it on easy..barly. Easy is only 7 of 9 levels though. On Normal so far, I can get to the second boss. I unlocked Contra NES already, working on Super C, good stuff!

Next week is the Wii Zapper with Links Crossbow Training, Ghost Squad (Zapper time, for RE:UC too) and Geometry Wars. Have fun!

Dreamcast Kid

This episode you get to meet one of my favorite customers, the Dreamcast kid. Let me see if I can adequately put to words what this youngster is about:

To start, he's about 9-10 years old. To understand his personality, you need to feed a child that age a large amount of crack, then give him a six pack of Red Bull, a giant size Hershey bar, a 2-liter of Coke, and a bottle of maple syrup to wash it all down with. Yes, he's that hyper.

There are two people browsing the store, and he opens the door and bolts in, cutting through the couple like a linebacker and saying "scuse me" after getting 5 steps past them. He's now at the back wall, literally bouncing up and down looking through the retrogaming racks. He then runs up to the counter and starts yelling at me "do you have any Sega Dreamcasts in?" No, I tell him. "Do you have any Sega Dreamcast VMUs?" No, I tell him, to which he then comes around the counter and points at a pile of memory cards I have waiting to be put out. "There's one! There's one!" Actually it's a N-64 rumble pack, but he swears it's a VMU. "Do you have any Sega Dreamcast power packs? I need one." No, I tell him, only a handful of Dreamcast games back on the wall.

Then he does a few more laps around the store...and by now his dad comes in. His dad actualy buys something, but I can't remember what it was, because for the whole rest of the time the kid just rapid-fires questions at me, one right after another. "Is that a Plasma TV?""When's Halo 3 coming out?""Do you have any Wii's?""What's your favorite Sega Dreamcast game?" (he always says SEGA Dreamcast.) "Can you order any Sega Dreamcast power cords?" I felt like I was on a quiz show - he wouldn't even give me time to answer any of the questions......I fear for my life the day when I actually HAVE some Dreamcast items and the kid really gets excited!

One day Hunter pulled out his camera phone and tried to get a picture of him. The results? Each shot was too blurry.

Kirby

Kirby showed up in the store one day!!!! Really!!Well, actually this girl (stop right there, I know what you're thinking: What's a girl doing in a game store? Well, most of the time it's a mom buying a game for her kids, or a female buying something for her boyfriend. I only met one girl under 45 who said she plays games for herself, and promptly asked her to marry me, bought a game on credit, and her name was Kirby. Her NAME WAS KIRBY! I told her that her name was Kirby (which I'm sure she knew since people called her that all her life), and explained that was also a video game character, which she said she knew. Not much of a point to that story, but Kirby visiting the store made my afternoon.....

Super Mario Galaxy

I played Super Mario Galaxy yesterday, it was Awesome. I played it at the Gamestop demo kiosk. I am impressed the game is great, I beat the first boss, played for like 20 mins. I didn't want to play too much, I can’t wait to get into the game.

At first it felt a tad weird running upside down, the feeling was just so different, but I got used to it. Jumping feels a tad floaty, but that probably because of the physics engine and in game gravity. It really feels like a unique experience. The game does feel like Mario 64 2, so much more than Sunshine.

At Gamestop, the game was in widescreen but why don’t they have progressive scan on, it makes no sense. The game looks great, but the way Gamestop had it, it was overly jaggy and blurry. You can see the quality and outstanding texture and lighting. I guess I will have to wait to get it home to see it in its visual glory. I am not worried because I played Metroid Prime 3 there too before It came out and it was the same situation. When I brought it home, it looked so much better.

Like most people, I am dying to play this now....its less than 2 weeks away.

Sony's Latest Marketing Strategy

What is Sony doing? I can remember the times when a new console was introduced, and there were two options: either you buy it or you don't. But thanks to Microsoft starting the ball rolling on different versions of the 360, we now have Sony following suit by offering five hundred different versions of the Playstation 3. Is the 60 GB too expensive for you? Why not go for the 40! Oh wait, they gimped the set and now it's not backward compatible (but they don't make that very clear on the box or via marketing). 40 GB not up your alley? There is still the 20. Coming soon, the 22 GB set. Then then 26 GB. Then the 400 GB for the people who want to download the entire run of Star Trek starting with Shatner and ending with the last crappy movie.

Really Sony, PICK A SET AND STICK WITH IT. The consumers are getting sick of all these changes every few months trying to get a few more people to buy the console and help get the company out of the red. Or better yet, stop focusing so much on tweaking the console and get some decent games out for the thing.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core for the Wii

Anyone get this yet, its really great. Probally the best GG I have played in a while. Wii controls are interesting but I didn't try for too long. I been playing with the classic controller which is great. It plays so smooth I will be playing that way until I ger the Hori Stick next month!!!

It looks very sharp, great animation and has almost no load time. I would say none but now and than you have to wait a sec or two at the intro scenes. The game has kick-@$$ music also, lots of guitar rock.

Its a great fighter and will hold you over until SF4 comes out, get it now!

River City Ransom

Here we get a first look at the owner of our little software distribution facility, the Bossman. He's been doing this for over 15 years, and is a virtual treasure house of retail stories. But be warned though, aftering talking for about half an hour, any dreams you have of starting your own business or working in a retail environment will be shattered.

I got a real kick out of this story, about a kid who steps two feet into the store, contributes his lunch to the floor, and then just leaves. Is this a statement about all the violence in video games? Was he overwhelmed by the complete awesomeness of the store? We'll never know the true story.......we can only reflect on bossman's reaction to it all, "Why am I in this business?"

My new gripe.....UGGGHHHHHHHHHH guys.....

I can't tell you how many times in the past month I would see someone walk in the store and just be like UGGGGHHHHHHH..... Like they are so disgusted they are in the store....and its not like a bad knock on the store type UGGHHHHHHHH but more rather a I am here buying a game or movie for myself to do nothing and not out looking for a date or hanging with my friends UGGGGHHHHHHH....

Its funny when I sit down and think about it...When it happens I dont really think anything of it...but once they leave I guess I have a habbit on making sure everything goes well for the people so I think about what just happened with the customer and can't help but laugh....
Now when they do it..I try to think of what they are UGGGHHHHHHing for.....which is most the time that they are digusted with themselves judging by the way they look....

just thought I would share =p

A New Use for 360’s - Another Take

I don't have a 360, and with the problems the system had, I have no problem waiting. As for other systems, all my Nintendo systems still work, YEY! My Sony systems were another issue, I can recall one problem Me and Hunter (He is my younger Brother, for those that don't know) with a PS1 and had to replace, happened once no biggie. I really wanted to talk about our PS2(s). Notice the (s) on PS2, you see we had 5 of them that I remember.

We had all the problems including the typical overheating, laser problems, etc. This has always made me wonder how many people had to buy another one or have them repaired. I always thought Sony liked this because it increased their sales. Cynical, maybe but probally true none the less.

This is a reason why I have a Wii (and the games I like the most) and not a PS3 or a 360. I can wait until all these problems are solved and the games I want to play come out and the price goes down. Ya there are a few games I want to play now, but the system I have now has the most currently. Myself, like Postman, being "weened on a NES," I know what games I need to play and want to currently play, fun games, not ths same ol' generic gameplay.

Anyway thats my 25c on the subject!

A New Use for 360s

I guess you can't work in a game store this month without somebody bringing up the topic of Halo 3. It's like being a Star Trek fan and trying to avoid the Kirk/Picard question that will eventually be fired off at you. Hunter bought the game, and I was over there mid afternoon to check it out, and we said, "hey lets just marathon this sucker and bang it out." So we did, and six hours later the offline campaign was pwned. My "official" take on H3? This game serves the excellent purpose of weeding out true gamers from bandwagon/casual players. All the magazines, fanboys, Microsoft employees, etc. will tell you it's a 10/10 game, incredible, game of the century, whatever. All the "weened on a NES" players have been in agreement that Halo 3 isn't bad, it's just mediocre - same gameplay, same crappy level design, waaaaaaaay overhyped. I fall into this category. So when someone comes bopping in the store spouting off about how great Halo 3 is, my warning flag of "casual gamer" pops up.

The focus, however, should NOT be on how impressive or not H3 is, but rather what an unreliable system the 360 remains. Shortly after the largest entertainment launch known to man came the inevitable largest wave of warranty issues of Microsoft's equipment. From good ole' red rings, to disc read errors, even discs coming scratched right out of the box, Microsoft continues to dissuade me from actually buying one of their consoles by ignoring the design flaws of their hardware. And besides MS customer support, the people that bear the second largest brunt of this are the retailers. We constantly have customers bring back 360 and give us a hard time about it. Even after explaining that MS will fix the console for FREE, they state they don't feel like not being able to play Halo 3 for a month or two and want another console right this second.

Here is one good thing about not being a large chain like Wal-Mart who stocks hundreds of systems at a time. We rarely have more than one console, so the customer is forced to cross their fingers and hope MS can band-aid their smoking console back together. Remember, having the "greatest game in the history of the universe" doesn't do much good without a working system to play it on. If there is one lesson to be learned, both by this and the oh-so-many new bundles of consoles coming out, it's "Get things right the first time."

Sin and Punishment

Sin and Punishment for the N64 is now on the Wii VC, now all translated in english. I imported the game for my N64 when it came out in 2000 and I love it! It is a Treasure game (Ikuruga, Gunstar Heroes, etc...) after all.

The game STILL rocks, it looks great espically with increased resoultion on the VC. It plays great too, but it does take a while to get used to, it was perfect on the N64 controller but a tad strange at first on the classic controller. I kinda hope they do an update for Wiimote and Nunchuck :) Be sure to play the tutorial and you will be good!

It's a classic N64 game, the one you probally never played, and for 1200 points (a bargin really) you can now play this classic and see what everyone has been talking about all these years.

Download and enjoy!

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Well I got, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS, Its really good, its all touch screen controlled and for the most part rocks. It can be touchy (lol) at times, esp when trying to roll.

I have just started and I did a small dungeon and some sailing, the game is really fun. It controlls well, looks and sounds great.

I highly recommend getting the game, I can't see how you could be dissappointed.

Metroid Prime 3 Update

I have now completed the game 100% and am going back to play again. Thats the thing, I almost NEVER go back to play a game more than once. This is one of those game (hell, the whole series really) which you can play over and over again. I am playing Super Metroid again as well, since I just D/L it on the VC.

Well If you can't tell I really liked the game. Its a must play. So go out there and experence the newest Metroid and be in awe like every other Metroid before it.

The Last Battle

DISCLAIMER:

IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN FINAL FANTASY 7, JUST SKIP TODAY'S COMIC. SERIOUSLY.

Final Fantasy 7. What more could be said about this staple of gaming as we know it today. Just the fact that I finally got around to playing it about two months ago (yes, I know that's pathetic, being FIVE whole sequels behind in the series........). This game was so monumental that I had to be briefed by Hunter before playing it.

"By today's standards, the graphics might be a bit dated, but you have to remember the FMV and transitions were groundbreaking for the time." Ok, so when I played through I put myself in the headset of being back in 1997. "You need to pay attention to the story and characters, it gets pretty deep." No kidding. "Sepiroth is a total badass." Yep. So much that I'll bet he'd complain about something he bought in our store.

Thanks, Nintendo

Nintendo is a great little video game company. They manufacture the consoles with the lowest failure rate in the business (*this statement isn't very scientific. I don't have any concrete data to back this up, but only personal experience. I hear about hundreds of 360s and basically ANYTHING on Sony's product list either overheating or bursting into flame if you stare at it too long. There are NES systems still working to this day.......). They gave us some of the fondest memories during the most awkward period of our thirty-something lives: Zelda, Metroid, Mario Brothers, etc. They paved the way for gaming as we know it, and now I HATE them.

Ok, hate is too strong a word. I'm annoyed with them. There is a so called "parts shortage" when it comes to manufacturing their little golden child, the Wii. This rumor, smeared in with the over-hype division of the PR machine, has created a fervor among consumers, the Wii-fever. I get at least 3-4 calles per shift asking if we have a Wii, and the answer is always NO. It's impossible for a small, indy store like us to get them in new, so that leaves only the used market, and the only used Wiis that show up now are most likely stolen. And everyone uses the phrase "Nintendo Wii", as if some other competitor has accidently come up with the same name.

People, Nintendo is yanking your collective chains. I find it hard to believe that a company with enough video game industry experience to level Link up to a 20 heart life gauge and enough money to earn x99 free Mario lives is having trouble "meeting customer demand". Now the latest word is that the shortage will extend past the holiday. So now all the frustrated, store hopping parents will be taking their anger out on game store clerks, who collectively pay the price for Nindendo's sins. Wii calls are distracting and tie up the phone when I need to run credit cards. Besides, most stores will tell you they are sold out over the phone, becuase the next logical step in the process is "OH, hold one for me!!!!" which is a no win situation. If you say no, they have a meltdown. If you hold one, you are turning down the 10 people in the store who want one and are willing to pay right now, hoping that this caller will actually show up. Nintendo, stop this phoney drought and let your console sell itself once enough people get to actually come in contact with it.

The Surprise

Working at the store has its perks: I can borrow used games/movies for a day or two and try them out. The boss usually springs for meals. I'm the first one on the block to try out a new game. Someone will trade in a game I've been searching out for a while. But all that doesn't negate what I had to deal with one fatuful day. It's what I like to call the WTF moment of the year, and it's only January 6th.

There's a pile of games to be stocked on the shelves, and the boss and I are processing them: cleaning discs, checking for instruction books, pricing, etc. I come across a MLB06 The Show, and on top of the instructions is a white card. Many times people will jam receipts in a game, so I figured that's what it was. I turn it over, and to my complete dismay, it's a picture of two naked guys in a hotel room.

Now stop and read that last sentence over again. Yes, you read it right. I've read stories of traded PSPs having porn on them, but at least that make sense......it's a device that plays movies, so the media fits. Finding that picture is F'ed up on so many levels. I tried to think of every possible scenario of how it got there, and came up with these theories:

1) Someone has a grudge against the store, and was trying to sabotage us. Imagine if hadn't caught that, and little Jimmy finds it in his PS2 game?

2) They were transporting the picture to somewhere else, forgot about it, and traded the game in.

Talk about something being completely out of place......anyway after the initial shock, I got a pretty good laugh out of it. Only now I'm afraid to open game cases without parental supervision. Should MLB06 now get an AO rating?

I considered for a second being a total jerk and posting the picture. That will teach you to trade in games with naughty surprises! But common sense got the best of me, and I don't want to subject the readers to the same "easter egg" that I got. Hot coffee, eat your heart out.

Stick Em Up!

I'm a collector.....no wait, rather a connoisseur.....of materials related to the area of video games. Have a rare promo copy of the Japanese version of Final Fantasy 7 where Aeris doesn't die? I'm on it. The tissue that one of the developers of Einhander blew his nose in? Sell it to me. Just like most other collecters, I prefer the items to be in good shape. Even the easy to find stuff, like: I don't know - run of the mill games. That's why I can't stand going into a game store and finding a box tied up, beaten and blindfolded with stickers like it's been kidnapped by terrorists or something.

Really, do I need to know this game has been pre-owned via that large glowing green sticker slapped on the box? I think the scratched up disc and creases in the instruction book will relay that information just the same. Should I ask about the 10% extra trade value I get by paying to join some stupid club as the next eyesore suggests? No, becuase the clerk is going to give me that rant as I purchase the game anyway. Be sure to slap on some kind of sticker telling me what system said game is for - I can't just look at the top of the box to glean that information.

Is it too much to ask for used game stores to stop molesting my game? I've got a bit of a neat freak streak in me, and would like my collection to have just a bit of showmanship to it for the future. That way, when I'm 80 years old and giving a presentation on classic gaming in the Wii era (yes, they are going to name an entire era after the Wii if you like the console or not), I can hold up my copy of Gradius V and refer to it as the most underrated game ever without being ashamed of all the sticker residue on the outside of the box.

Metroid Prime 3

Metroid Prime 3 rocks HARD!!! It is a really good game. I don't think I will be able to control dual stick games like Lost Planet, Halo, etc anymore. The old dual stick is so bad in comparison, this is the closest to mouse and keyboard you will get on a console. Once you play a FPS/FPA like this, going back to dual stick will HURT. It makes me wonder how long till Sony (or Microsoft) copies Nintendo's controller (I heard Sony already is doing something).

I remember not being able to play Lost Planet very well (I remember it was on the night before my wedding) because I couldn't get the controls the way I wanted, if it had the new MP3 controls it would have been amazing to play. I think people will love the new style of play.

There are 3 settings, Beginner, Normal and Advanced. I didn't try beginner, Normal is more like Redsteel (but better) and Advanced is where its at. There is no bounding box, so its like having an air mouse! It takes a little while to get used to it because its sensitive and its always moving a bit, but once you get it down its great. Getting it down didn't take me long, smaller enimes are harder to hit at first, and you can still lock on (but you never have to, unless you need to use the grapple) and move around an enemy, but you can STILL aim while doing this. Its feels really great!

I played past the first section, you get a lot of story and told where to go. Don't worry though after that its just like the old games. I got to the planet so far and it looks so cool. Wow it is just a great game. I am over 1+ hours in game time (3 hours realtime) and loving every minute of it.

Bottom line...

If you have a Wii and love Metroid...Get it!
Want a great game on Wii...Get it!
Just get it! You will not regret it!

Nintendo is now number 1 in sales!

Wow that was fast, here's the info at IGN Wii. After only 9 months the Wii is the number 1 selling videogame console even outselling the DS.

I myself am a big Nintendo fan, I love their games. Makes me feel like I will get more out of my system then previous systems after the SNES. More games will be made for it and thats great, If Metroid Prime 3 does well next week (it will) and shows that the FPS control scheme can be best on Wii (supposodly its almost as good as PC's), we will get a more wide range of titles. We already are getting more, since it is selling so well the companies are realizing they need to make games for it and in a year or so it will be great.

I don't as of yet have a PS3 or 360, the PS3 is too much and the 360 is getting better but there are not enough games I want to play for the price, besides if I want to play something I go to my brothers (Hunter) to play! I don't want to have them breakdown either, Me and Hunter must have had 4-6 PS2's :( (at least that's a way to sell systems)

Im sure eventually I will get one if not both of them, in the past I would have had them all, but with getting married last year, life changes and time is shorter. So I play my Nintendo favs and the others (MGS4 and FFXIII) will have to wait.

Super Metroid

I just downloaded it on the Wii's VC. This game is so great, I bought it when it originally came out in 1994, on the first day! It's like playing it again for the first time, it holds up so well, it looks, sounds and plays great.....still

This is one of the best games ever and easily top 5 SNES. For anyone that hasn't played it or just love great sidescrollers, its a must play.

For all you Castlevaina SOTN and after fans, this is the game they all copied from, so download it and enjoy this classic SNES game!

Its a great way to kill time untill Metroid Prime 3 comes out next week!

I Never Heard That One Before!

Signs can be completely pointless. If we put a sign in the window "Just ask and we'll give you a FREE game", only 5 out of every 10 people would take advantage of it, because most people don't bother to read signs. Imagine if the same were true of traffic symbols? Oh, I didn't want to take the time to read the four letters on the stop sign, so I didn't bother to stop........

With that said, there are two types of people who will ask to use the bathroom at the store. The first type I can deal with, it's the people who just didn't see the sign. Usually it's the parent dragging the 8 year old with them that just bought a happy meal and visited 3 other stores before us, and the child's bladder is screaming bloody murder. I have a game for you, kid, it's called see if you can make it home without staining the back seat of mommy's new SUV.

The second person is the wise guy - they read the sign and think it will be the funniest schtick since Robin Williams if they knowingly ask to use the restroom. Woah, don't ask that in public, Dave Chapelle might overhear and incorporate it into his next HBO special. Maybe it was slightly funny the first time someone asked, but after 50 times it gets old, people. Then you have the repeat offenders, who after you tell them no, they ask again, this time with a "really?", or some other inflection to make sure they can't use the restroom. And trust me, our bathroom is so dirty, you would actually clean it up a bit by pissing all over the toilet.

Location Test

I hate calls that are a waste of time. Having a long, intelligent conversation about video games is a favorite pasttime of mine, however the exact opposite happens when dealing with the phone. Currently most of the tele-annoyances inquire if we have any Wii in stock (Nintendo owes me personally for drumming up such a fervor about their stupid console). Second to that is "what time do you close." These calls scare me, because if I tell them we close at 9pm, chances are they are going to show up at 8:56, becuase clerks want nothing more than to extend their shift when it's time to go home.

The third most common call is "where are you located?", i.e. people wanting direcctions to the store. Being a bit of a wise-ass myself, I always wanted to answer "standing behind the counter!" (see comic), but dealing with the public requires a polite front, so I hold off and just give them directions. Don't most people just use Mapquest by now anyway? Seriously, when you call a place that has a busy employee trying to handle 5 things at once, they aren't going to give you the best directions on how to get there.

My other favorite call is the Dreamcast kid (who will show up in the comic shortly.) He's a young guy who probably sits at home unsupervised, and calls us up for the craziest stuff. Once he called asking how to get past a certain part in Zelda Ocarina of Time (which I forgot since it has been so long since I've played it). Recently he called and spouted off in a rapid fire voice: "My controllers don't work and I tried to push left and it won't go left but the Super NES isn't working either the trigger buttons won't play and I can't play my game and the controllers still don't work and.....and......and......" He's always a good time.......

Hollywood Scuffle

Ok...so i must have a kick me sign on my back or something to the same effect that brings bad luck or something...I was sitting here on a dead summer Saturday morning...There was nothing going on..i was done all the work i needed to do..no one came in...eventually this guy came in and wanted to get a cd cleaned....

We have a 20,000 industrial machine here that takes scratches outta discs and basically can turn any disc thats not cracked into a brand new shiny perfect disc. Including those GTA discs...but that is another story.

So...he comes in and asks about it...
Guy: So you can repair the discs?
Me: Yep..its 5 dollars..it will make it perfect.
Guy: how does it work?

So i explain how it works....

Guy: So your pirating games?

At this point i was totally dumbfounded....is this guy that stupid..or does he have some other motive....but lucky for me...this wasnt my first day...

Me: No sir...it simply takes scratches out..not copying the disc.
Guy: But, the game is broken and your fixing it. Are you giving money to the game makers?
Me: No sir the company already got the money for this game. All we do is offer a service to fix the disc if its damaged.
Guy:So your not giving money to the company when you do this and your taking money outta their pockets.
Me: No sir..they already got the money....people mess their games up..this is why the sell things such as the game doctor....(which is crap btw....)
Guy: No...your pirating...whats your name?
Me: so i tell em...cause its not like its going to make a difference...
Guy: You'll be hearing from my lawyer...
Me: Ok no prob...here take a buisness card so you know how to find me..

The guy got all pissed at me and stormed out....needless to say..its been over a year and i havent heard from anyone or anything...go figure....

This guy was retired and prob bored and needed money and trying to sue anyone for anything....but try someone else who is a fucking idiot...and not someone who knows how to do his damn job....I deal with shit like this all the time...its why i have the job...

And for anyone who doesn't know...you are allowed to make backup copies of games you own...your just not allowed to sell them...and resurfacing isnt creating a new disc...therefore we arent selling a copied disc...just fixing a damaged disc....which is perfectly allowed...

We will have more information, stories, etc, going up in the near future. I really hope you enjoy the comic and blog!
